NO ALPHA'S HERE

If you, like many, are still hearing people (ie: trainers) tout alpha and dominance theory and applying that to dog training, it's past time to let the wolf out of the bag. The concept of an "alpha" in relation to our domesticated companions is highly outdated theory that has little relevance to our pups, because wolves and dogs are behaviorally distinct. Check out this great article for an overview of where the theory came from and the work that's been and being done to debunk it.

AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB (AKC)

Look to the AKC for information on dog breeds, puppies, dog shows, the Canine Good Citizen and S.T.A.R. Puppy programs, the AKC Animal Therapy program, and a variety of training resources.
